Xfator vs beck
Xfactor is a TV show run by
a Simon cowl (syco) who is part of Sony records one of the major record
companies, the main purpose of the show is to primarily find “new talent” but
it is also used to promote songs and as a way of producing music distributing
it and exchanging it. The type of artist that often wins xfactor is the same
ever year which is a pop star the reason for this is because pop music is a
product that sales, can make a lot of money and carries a large fan base.
Because xfactor is part of
such a large record label they can use music from over artists under their
label to promote their new artists and to bring their old songs back in to
popularity. A massive problem with this is that the music that is produced is
the same as the music that has already been produced and is just constantly
being recycled and there is never any new unique music being produced and can
come across as boring. Not only can they use music and promote on xfactor (syco
TV) but they can also use their music in films that are produced by syco film.
If you compare the Xfactor
to someone like Beck Hansen who as a DIY (do it yourself) artist who originally
made it big with a huge underground popularity, by creating musical collages of
a wide range of styles. One of becks most unique ideas was to produce an album
called the song write which was a whole album made of purely sheet music that
he made available to his fans to produce themselves in which ever way they
decided to interpret it which opens up the market because they can produce it
in any genre or style they like.
Beck has also similar to xfactor
designed a unique way of producing, distributing and exchanging his music and
he does this whilst getting his fans and followers involved. Both xfactor and
beck although very different approaches to the music industry on style and ideas
they both have learnt that in this day and age of technology where people can
access what they want when they want and are easily distracted they have to get
their fans and followers involved xfactor has done this though voting and getting
their fans and followers by giving them the control and power over what they
want to see on, where as beck as done it by giving his fans the ability to
produce and even possible make money of f of has music.
